Gray Collegiate clinches playoff spot in boys basketball; Girls win too
Gray Collegiate boys’ basketball team defeated Newberry, 84-35, Tuesday in Newberry.
With the win the War Eagles, of West Columbia, claimed the team’s fifth straight Region 3-2A title. Gray also earned a No. 1 seed in the SC High School League Tournament.
The War Eagles, coached by coach Dion Bethea, had not played for 16 days because of COVID protocols.
Gray Collegiate is on an eight-game winning streak and now has a record of 16-4 and 7-0 in the region. Gray has won three consecutive 2A state titles and will begin the playoffs in the Upper State on Monday.
The Gray Collegiate girls basketball team also qualified for the playoffs Tuesday. The Lady War Eagles defeated Crescent 46-43 in overtime. Gray will travel Saturday to Christ Church to play as a 2A at-large entry on Saturday.
