Gray Collegiate Academy names Gene Frye as new varsity baseball coach
Gray Collegiate Academy has named Gene Frye as its new varsity baseball coach.
He is a championship- caliber coach Frye began coaching when he was 16 with Lexington Dixie Youth Baseball. He has coached at all levels of recreational baseball from Majors, Pony, and American Legion. He has coached on the high school level too.
Frye’s teams have won 15 championships and six consecutive titles in Majors and Pony League baseball. His American Legion Lexington Post 7 teams won the 1992 Upper State Championship and made the play-offs eight straight years.
With American Legion Richland Post 6 from 2000-2002 Frye’s teams won League, State and Southeastern Region Championships. That team defeated Puerto Rico for the Title and advanced to the World Series in St. Louis and finished runner-ups to California after a 21 inning game.
Frye’s softball record at White Knoll High School was 38-3 in three seasons from 2005-through-2007. His first team finished undefeated. His teams were Region champs all three years.
His record was 31-7 From 2010-2014 and Frye’s Lexington Dixie Youth teams (11/12 & 13/14 year olds) were State and World Series Champions in 2010. Those teams made the state finals all four years.
