Former West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton passed away Thursday around noon. He was taken to Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia on Saturday. He passed away at the hospital. Horton was 87-years-old.
Horton was diagnosed with multi myeloma more than five years ago. He finished his last term as West Columbia mayor in 2019, the year current West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles was elected. Even after the multi myeloma diagnosis, the former mayor was active. He was at the 2023 “Taste on the River” on June 13.
Horton received the Order of the Palmetto from Gov. Henry McMaster in November of 2019, his last month as mayor. He also was given the Key to the City, with a resolution chronicling his life of service to the City of West Columbia.
