Former Gamecock QB Steve Tanneyhill died Monday morning. He was 52-years-old. He suffered from cancer before his death. He lived in Spartanburg.

Tanneyhill, who back-then sported a mullet haircut, was the high-spirited, star quarterback for the University of South Carolina from 1992 to 1995. He broke the school record for touchdown passes and led the school to its first-ever bowl victory in the 1995 CarQuest Bowl over West Virginia.

Tanneyhill also led the Gamecocks to a last-second TD at Georgia to beat the Bulldogs. Click here to see UGA Legendary Broadcaster Larry Munson’s call. Another big Tanneyhill win was beating Danny Ford’s Clemson Tigers at Death Valley, and a victory over Tennessee at Williams-Brice Stadium.

After leaving USC, Tenneyhill became a high school football coach in Chesterfield, and after that he bought Group Therapy, the popular Five Points college hangout in Columbia. He also owned CB-18, another establishment in Five Points.
