Former Clemson and Gray Quarterback Hunter Helms to join Clemson coaching staff

Former Clemson Quarterback Hunter Helms will join the Clemson coaching staff of Dabo Sweeney this summer, according to his father, Todd Helms.

Helms played quarterback at Gray Collegiate Academy before moving on to Clemson where he became the Tigers’ No. 2 quarterback. Helms left Clemson for the University of Rhode Island for the 2024 football season. There, he started 5 games and helped the Rams win 11 games and a first-round playoff game.

Helms is in West Columbia currently working with the football coaching staff at Gray. He plans to move to Clemson in June to begin his coaching career with the Tigers, his father said.

Todd Helms said his son will work with quarterbacks and Clemson’s offensive coaches.
Helms had another year of eligibility to play and got offers to play at at least 4 other schools, but he chose to begin his coaching career and was offered that opportunity by Sweeney.
