Former Cayce business owner is killed
Franklin Parker, 79, was killed Thursday and a Columbia man is facing murder charges for allegedly shooting him. Parker is the former owner of Parker’s Trim Shop of Cayce and Cayce Bait & Tackle.
Edward Britt, 56, is charged with Parker’s murder after authorities said Britt shot Parker during an argument.
Britt is also facing charges of possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers, Britt was at Parker’s St. Matthews home. The two men got into an argument and Britt allegedly shot Parker multiple times in the upper torso. Britt then fled the scene. A tip led to the discovery of the crime.
According to an article from Friday in the Orangeburg Times and Democrat, Britt confessed to shooting Parker. Britt was being held at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center.
Britt’s criminal history dates back to 1979. He has charges against him, including assault. He has been charged with various offenses in Darlington County, Lexington County, Calhoun County, Cayce, Lexington, Columbia and the S.C. Highway Patrol.
