Flooding expected in Lexington County as Tropical Storm Debby heads toward South Carolina, State of Emergency declared

Tropical Storm Debby was approaching the Big Bend of FL Sunday evening. Considerable to potentially catastrophic flooding is expected as Debby moves across southern GA and stalls near the SC coast this week.

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a State of Emergency, Sunday because of the storm.
“I have declared a State of Emergency to prepare for Tropical Storm Debby’s potential impact on South Carolina. With potentially heavy rainfall forecast for the next few days, residents should start making preparations and plans today—in case it is necessary to take quick action.”

Major Flooding is possible in Lexington County beginning on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The rain from the storm could last through Thursday. The potential threat of rain comes from Tropical Storm Debby as the storm makes its approach toward South Carolina. The Weather Prediction Center has placed much of the Lexington County area in the Moderate Risk for Excessive Rainfall category, with a small portion of the warning area for a rare High Risk. Wind gusts could rise to 40 MPH.
