Fire that damaged Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce is being investigated

On Thursday at 1:44 a.m., the Cayce Fire Department responded to Trinity Baptist Church, 2003 Charleston Highway, for a reported structure Fire, according to a release from the City of Cayce. Upon the arrival of fire units, smoke was seen coming from the building. Firefighters made entry in the building and were able to contain and extinguish the fire.

Thursday afternoon cones blocked entry into the church and clean-up crews were on site, removing charred insulation.

A hallway leading into the church was where the fire was. Smoke did blanket other parts of the church. Church will not be held in the sanctuary Sunday, and possible the Sunday after that while a clean up and soot removal is conducted.

The Cayce Fire Department requested mutual aid from Lexington County and Batesburg-Leesville for additional resources. There was minimal damage to one portion of the church.

Trinity Baptist Church is currently closed while an investigation is being performed. Cayce Police Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) were called in to assist in the investigation. The City of Cayce reported the numerous agencies investigating is normal procedure.
