Fire crews from Irmo, Lexington County and Columbia respond to fire at assisted living facility

Units from the Irmo Fire District responded a structure fire early Tuesday morning in an assisted living facility in the 900 block of Columbia Avenue. Fire and EMS crews worked to evacuate residents and extinguish the fire.

Fire damage was limited to a laundry room and did not extend into the rest of the structure. There were two minor injuries.

Fire and EMS crews remained on the scene through until 5 a.m.to make sure that smoke was removed from the structure and helped residents get back into their units.

Crews from Columbia Fire Department (SC) and Lexington County Fire assisted with firefighting efforts, and Lexington County EMS assisted with resident evacuations and care. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (Irmo Fire District photo)
