Fatal crash shuts down lanes of I-20, Wednesday afternoon
At least one person is dead after an accident on I-20 west bound Wednesday afternoon. The crash has west bound lanes blocked. The S.C. Highway patrol is on the scene, according to Master Trooper David Jones.
The crashed happened after 1 p.m. Wednesday and the interstate was still backed up at 3:30 according to SC Department of Public Safety cameras.
The collision happened on I-20 west near the 72.5 mile marker. A car caught fire. A tractor-trailer carrying plastic pellets, that spilled into the road after the crash, is involved.
A 2002 Toyota sedan was merging onto I-20 westbound at exit 72 and lost control, according to Jones. The vehicle spun into a guard rail, and then under a tractor trailer, where the vehicle and the back of the trailer caught fire.
