Escaped inmate captured in Lexington County
Three inmates broke out of the Orangeburg detention center over the weekend. One of them has been captured in Lexington County, according to Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.
In a press release Ravenell said: “Christopher Boltin was taken into custody in Lexington County by sheriff’s deputies in that jurisdiction,” Ravenell said: “He will be returned to Orangeburg and put back in jail to await his court hearing. We will now focus on the remaining two at large.”
Boltin, 27, and the two other inmates escaped from the Orangeburg-Calhoun Regional Detention Center Saturday night. They overpowered a correctional officer.
Boltin had contacts in Lexington County and that information was forwarded to Lexington County deputies and they followed up on it.
Boltin was captured without incident in the northern portion of Lexington County.
Boltin was in the detention center on charges of carjacking and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Ravenell said the search will now focus on the two escapees remaining at large.
The other two inmates who escaped are: Tyshon Demontrea Johnson, 27; and Curtis Ray Green, 20. Johnson and Green were awaiting trial on murder charges.
