The South Carolina Department of Transportation shut down Interstate 20 East at the Augusta Road overpass just after 7 a.m. Tuesday to make repairs.

The interstate re-opened around 11 a.m.

A dump truck struck an overpass bridge on Interstate 20 Tuesday morning. The dump truck struck the bridge at around 4:30 a.m. according to the SCDOT.

SCDOT crews were adding a barrier under the damaged part of the bridge, to catch any falling debris, according to Lance Cpl David Jones of the SCHP. Jones said the driver of the dump truck was going along the interstate with the dump truck up, when it struck the bridge.

Motorists traveling eastbound on I-20 were detoured off the interstate at US 1(Exit 58) to US 378 (Sunset Boulevard) and then to I-20. Motorists could re-enter I-20 East from US 1 when repairs are complete.
