DUI arrest made after fatal crash on Platt Springs Road

A person riding a motorcycle was killed, Friday on Platt Springs Road in Lexington County, at McLee Road. A Lexington man has been arrested for felony DUI in connection to the case.

The collision occurred around 5:50 p.m. Friday, according to Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell of the SC Highway Patrol.

Tidwell said a 2018 Kia Optima was traveling east on Platt Spring Road when a 2013 Honda motorcycle and the Kia collided.

According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, Mr. Galen Manapat, 73, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries.

Mr. Manapat collided with the Kia that was making a left turn toward McLee Road. Mr. Manapat was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Kia was identified as Jonathon Ackiss, 36, of Lexington. He was charged with Felony DUI, open container and possession of marijuana, said Tidwell.

The crash is being investigated by the SCHP.
