Dr. Lazzarini wants to return to practice, after being charged
Dr. Adam Lazzarini was charged with involuntary manslaughter after a man died of a gunshot wound at Lazzarini’s Cayce home on Oct. 9.
After being charged, Lazzarini’s medical license was suspended by the S.C. Board of Medical Examiners, but that suspension has been lifted, said Eric Bland, Lazzarini’s attorney.
Now, Lazzarini, a hip surgeon who worked for Lexington Medical Center, wants to go back to work.
“He is not a threat to his patients, staff or the public.” said Bland of Lazzarini. “He has a clean record and he is well-regarded.”
Bland also said Lazzarini, who worked in LMC’s sports orthopedics department, offers a valuable service to the community and he is needed.
But as of Monday, Lazzarini was still on leave from Lexington Medical Center.
Lazzarini was charged in connection to the October death of William Player Holland at Lazzarini’s home on Hunters Mill Drive, Cayce. The shooting death was ruled an accident at first by the Cayce Public Safety Department. But police said they discovered new evidence before charging Lazzarini earlier this month.
And on May 1, EMS personnel were called to Lazzarini’s home and found his wife, Vanessa Biery, unresponsive. She later died. Results of an autopsy have not been released.
Bland also said Lazzarini is dealing with the death of his wife, the charges against him, while caring for his five-year-old daughter. “It’s a full plate to fall in anyone’s lap,” said Bland.
