Services for Dr. Brian K. Hawkins, 48, of Columbia will be private. The family will greet friends from 6:30 – 7:30 PM Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington.
Brian passed away suddenly at his home January 28, 2017. Born in Columbia, he was a son of Ray Hawkins and Rozanne Holland Hawkins. As a child, he was a member of a swim team, where he received ten blue ribbons and a trophy for “Swimmer of the Year”. He also received six first place trophies for miniature golf, and received the honor of first place at the Art Division of the SC State Fair.
Brian attended Irmo High School, and graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School, where he was allowed to teach classes his senior year. He served his country proudly in the US Navy, where he attended Nuclear Power School, and served aboard the U.S.S. Dale. Brian was a graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens, where he received his Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. He worked for many years at John Paul’s Restaurant as a manager in Greenville, Anderson, and Columbia, SC. Most recently, he had retired from Publix Pharmacy in Aiken, SC.
He was an avid reader, once reading an entire set of encyclopedias from A to Z. Brian spent hours each day reading the news from all over the world. He was also a collector of movies. He took his mother, an Elvis Presley fan, to Graceland and Las Vegas to see all of Elvis’ shows. He purchased for her every DVD of Elvis he could find. Brian will be dearly missed by his entire family.
Brian is survived by his parents; 2 aunts, Faye Holland, Jewell Pritchett; uncle, Ted Holland, and a loving extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved sister, Regina Ashton Holland.
