Domestic Violence Assault sends a Lexington County Man to Prison for 20 years

Michael Boyd Harvey, II, age 53, pled guilty to Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature in Lexington County on Thursday, Sept. 4. Circuit Court Judge Debra R. McCaslin sentenced Harvey to the maximum 20 years in prison. Under South Carolina law, this offense is classified as serious and violent.

On Aug. 26, 2024, Harvey physically assaulted the victim. Harvey punched, kicked, and beat her over an extended period of time causing her to ultimately develop a stroke. The victim was rushed to Prisma Health Richland Hospital where she remained hospitalized for several months. As a result of the assault, the victim sustained massive bruising and swelling to her face, head, neck, chest, and about her body. Four fingers on her right hand were partially amputated and her left arm is now paralyzed.

Harvey fled the area once a relative located the victim and called 911. Harvey was located and apprehended by detectives with the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office ten days later.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant Solicitor Dante Esposito and Senior Assistant Solicitor Robby McNair. The investigation was conducted by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Harvey has prior convictions for assault and driving under the influence. Harvey has been transferred will begin serving his sentence at the South Carolina Department of Corrections immediately.
