Capt. Scott Morrison, of the WCPD, presented Arnold with a resolution during the West Columbia City Council meeting, Tuesday.

David Arnold gave the West Columbia Police Department a $10,000 donation in August. Tuesday night, he said he plans to give a lot more.

Capt. Scott Morrison, of the WCPD, presented Arnold with a resolution during the West Columbia City Council meeting. It thanked Arnold for his $10,000 donation.  When Morrison finished reading the resolution, Arnold pledged to donate $10,000 a year to the WCPD for five years.

When arnold made the presentation in August, West Columbia Police Chief Dennis Tyndall said his officers need firepower on the level of the weapons used by criminals. That donation was expected to be used to buy AR-15 rifles.

Arnold was a police officer for 25 years. He retired from the Columbia Police Department two years ago, he said.   In August, Arnold said he would become a West Columbia resident soon. And because of his years of service, he knows what officers can face on patrol.
