Hites-A

Crowds flock to Hite’s BBQ in West Columbia on on Fourth of July

It was a typical July Fourth for Hite’s Barbeque on Dreher Road in West Columbia. That meant the hungry were lined up in the front parking lot waiting to get a bite of the mouth-watering barbeque to take home.
The number of cars and trucks lined up on the side of the road is an indicator of just how popular Hite’s is. This July 4th was another big success, according to Hite’s owners.

Hite’s cooked: 625 whole chickens; 325 gallons of hash; 270 racks of ribs; 6 hogs; and 164 hams that weighed 22 pounds each. It all sold out all but a couple of chickens, said Amy Coates Hite, wife of David Hite, the head of Hite’s and its barbeque crew. Top photo by Teresa Almond
