
Crews respond to fire on Bush River Road, no one hurt, 4 apartment units destroyed
Crews from several fire agencies were on the scene with Irmo Fire units, around noon Monday. There was a fire in an apartment building in the 5300 block of Bush River Road.
The fire was well established and burning through the attic when crews arrived. An aggressive search was mounted based on multiple reports of people trapped, but no victims were found inside.
The fire was brought under control with help from the Columbia-Richland, Lexington County and West Columbia fire departments.
The building contained eight units. Four were destroyed, two were heavily damaged and two suffered water damage. Twenty three people have been displaced. One civilian was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, there have been no injuries to firefighters.
Crews remained on the scene for much of the afternoon mopping up hot spots. The cause is currently under investigation. IFD Photos
