
Crash closed down I-20 Tuesday, coroner releases name of man who died in the collision


The S.C. Highway Patrol reported Tuesday that one person died from injuries suffered in a that occurred around 11:15 a.m. on I-20.
A portion of I-20 was closed near Sunset Blvd. (US-378) near mile marker 59, in both directions, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, crews were working the crash involving an 18-wheeler. The sheriff’s Department and the Lexington Police Department as motorists to avoid the area, if possible.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the individual who died as a result of the single-vehicle incident Tuesday at approximately 10:30 a.m.
According to Fisher, Mr. Alexander Buie, 65, of Fayetteville, NC was pronounced dead at the scene due to his injuries. Buie was operating a tractor trailer when he swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle and lost control. The tractor trailer left the right side of the highway and collided with trees and a fence.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
