Motorcycle Fatality in Lexington County results in two dead.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 6 and Meadowfield Drive in Lexington.

Wayne E. Whitworth Jr., 43, of Columbia was operating a 2002 Harley Davidson, and his wife, Kristie Ann Mason, 40, of Columbia was a passenger on the motorcycle. Both were killed.

The motorcycle was traveling south on Meadowfield Road when Whitworth failed to stop for a stop sign at Meadowfield Road and Hwy 6. The motorcycle was struck by a Chrysler minivan that was traveling west on Highway 6. Both Whitworth and Mason were pronounced dead at the scene from the injuries they sustained in the accident.

The driver and passengers of the van were not injured. The couple was not wearing helmets when the collision occurred. Autopsies will be performed on Monday, to determine the cause of the death.The South Carolina Highway Patrol as well as the Lexington County Coroner’s Office is continuing to investigate this accident.
