Could West Columbia annex Quail Hollow next?

The City of West Columbia annexed an area near I-26 and U.S. 1, in late July, and added about 1,500Q residents.

The annexation was successful after residents voted in favor, 203-169. West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton called the annexation a “win-win” situation. The city offered city-water rates (half price) to the area in the annexation, including the subdivisions of Darby Place, West Gate and Rainbow and Stonewood drives.

At the Aug. 2, West Columbia City Council meeting to approve the annexation, Councilman Tem Miles said city staff- headed by Economic Development Director B.J Unthank- should next pursue annexation of the Quail Hollow neighborhood.
Quail Hollow is a subdivision, off of US 378 (Sunset Boulevard that is west of Lexington Medical Center, between West Columbia and Lexington.)
Miles said the city would be wise to use the same approach toward annexing Quail Hollow, that it used successfully to annex the I-26-US 1 residences.
