Coroner reports a pedestrian fatality in Redbank

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the pedestrian that was struck and killed on Highway 6 in the Redbank Community of Lexington County.

David John Thans, 46, of Pelion was walking east on the eastbound side of Highway 6 near the intersection of Highway 6 and Lexington Hills Parkway at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Sunday when he was struck by a pickup truck that was traveling eastbound.

Thans was transported to Lexington County EMS to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital where he later died from the injuries he sustained in the accident.   The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured in the accident and was wearing a seatbelt according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

An autopsy will be performed on October 13th to determine the cause of death for Mr. Thans.  The Lexington County Coroner’s Office as well as the South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accident
