Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a motorcycle accident. The crash occurred in the 500 block of West Dunbar Road in West Columbia a short time before 3 a.m. Saturday.

According to Fisher, Mr. Dana Craig Merritt, Jr., 31, of Gaston was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained when he was ejected from his motorcycle.

Merritt, who was not wearing a helmet when the incident occurred, appeared to have lost control while attempting to navigate a curve. A passenger on the motorcycle, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to an area hospital; the condition of that individual is unknown at this time. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
