Coroner identifies pedestrian killed early Sunday morning

One pedestrian was killed and another was injured after they were hit by a pickup truck. The incident occurred early Sunday, according to a S.C. Highway Patrol report.

The collision happened, in Lexington County, around 1:20 a.m. on Jamil Road near Rhett Road, according to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The two that were hit were walking in the road and were not wearing bright or reflective material when the northbound Ford pickup hit them, Southern said.

Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the pedestrian who died due to being struck as Ms. Sabrina Maria Nelums, 44, of Columbia. She was pronounced dead at the scene due to obvious traumatic injuries sustained in the collision. The driver of the vehicle, who was not injured, stopped at the scene to render aid. Another pedestrian, who was struck by the mirror of the vehicle during the same incident, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol is ongoing.
