Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died in a vehicle collision. The crash occurred on I-26 westboud near exit 104 Wednesday, around 5:20 a.m.

According to Fisher, Mr. Austin William Dugar, 19, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at an area hospital due to injuries sustained in the collision.

Dugar, who is believed to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. While presumably attempting to correct his direction of travel, Dugar stopped his vehicle in the lanes of travel, perpendicular to the road.

While Dugar was in the middle of the interstate trying to turn around, his vehicle was struck by another vehicle.  There were no other occupants in Dugar’s vehicle. The other driver of the vehicle that hit Dugar was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

According to Trooper David Jones of the SCHP, a Chrysler sedan was traveling eastbound in a westbound lane of I-26, and struck a Toyota truck head on.

The driver of the Chrysler died at the scene, said Jones. The driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Portions of the interstate were blocked for about two hour because of the crash.

The accident is under investigation by the S.C. Highway Patrol .
