Congaree River rising, to crest Saturday, part of Cayce Riverwalk closed

Double Branch in West Columbia

The City of Cayce has closed portions of its Riverwalk due to high water.

After three days of rain, the river is rising. Creeks in the area are swollen too.

The City of Cayce is reporting the Congaree River is 14.21 ft and rising. Phase 3 (the raw water plant to the Newman Boat Landing) of the Riverwalk is being closed. The river is foretasted to crest at 15.50 ft by Saturday. Flood stage is 19 feet. The rising water has resulted in the closing of the Cayce Riverwalk from Blossom Street to the Newman Boat Landing.

Three days ago, a portion of the West Columbia Riverwalk, from the Moffatt Street entrance to the Gervais Street Bridge was closed.

The video is of the Double Branch, a stream that runs through West Columbia, under Botanical Parkway near the West Columbia entrance to Riverbanks Zoo Botanical Gardens. The creek eventually flows into the Saluda River.
