A familiar face is coming back to Brookland-Cayce High School as the new softball coach.

CJ Hudak, a 2005 graduate of Brookland-Cayce, played as a member of multiple state championship teams under the leadership of the late Coach Richard Lundy.

“I’m incredibly honored and excited to be a Bearcat again,” Hudak said.

Hudak brings a wealth of softball play and leadership experience, including as founder and head coach of the Palmetto Peaches Fastpitch Softball travel team and as president and coach of Midland Girls Softball. Her teams have consistently competed at a high level, and she’s won several state championships throughout high school and club softball. As recreational coach Hudak’s team was undefeated this past season. She has a career .598 winning percentage. 

Hudak, who attended a meet and greet at Brookland-Cayce earlier this week with current and former players, teachers/staff, coaches, alumni, and other guests, said her purpose as a coach is more than wins and losses, it’s to teach young players about resiliency, work ethic, and character – the same kinds of lessons she said Coach Lundy taught her.

Hudak said she’s excited to be part of the Bearcat tradition and legacy.

“I’m glad to be home,” she said.
