1-A-History

Civil War History Walk scheduled Saturday at Cayce’s 12,000 Year History Park on Congaree Creek

The Battle of Congaree Creek in present-day Cayce was the last fortified position defended by Confederate troops in the Civil War before the capture and destruction of Columbia.

Walk the battlefield and visit the earthworks, learn about the strategies and tactics used by both sides as Sherman marched through South Carolina on his way to Columbia. And learn about the not-so-obvious connection between the earthworks and the new State House that was under construction at the time.

The History Walk begins Saturday, Sept 10, at 10 AM in front of the Cayce Tennis Center, located at 1120 Fort Congaree Trail in Cayce.

This free tour is nearly 2-miles long and will take about 2 hours. This tour is sponsored by the City of Cayce.
