City of West Columbia hosts Fall Clean-Up Day, Community Garden Planting Oct. 21

The City of West Columbia is hosting a Fall city wide clean-up day and community garden planting on Saturday, October 21, 2017, between 9 AM and 12 PM. The clean-up is in partnership with Keep the Midlands Beautiful. The Fall planting of the West Columbia Community Garden is funded with the assistance of the Palmetto Pride – Community Pride Grant.

Volunteers are encouraged to come to City Hall, at 200 N. 12th Street, West Columbia, to pick up gloves, safety vests, and trash bags and head to the community space of choice. A shred truck will be onsite at City Hall. The following will be collected in the City Hall parking lot: tires (limited to 4 per household), batteries, used cooking oil, electronics, computers, monitors, printers, laptops, microwaves, radios, phones, game systems, DVDs, TVs, and paint cans (filled with kitty litter, sand or dirt.)

Councilman Tommy Parler said, “We encourage residents to take this opportunity to clean out their carports, garages, and yards to help beautify the City.”

The West Columbia Community Garden Fall planting will take place behind City Hall. Seeds and plants will be provided. The garden is free and open to the public to plant, tend, and harvest funded with the assistance of the Palmetto Pride – Community Pride Grant.
