NOTIFICATION TIMELINE:
On May 20, the City of Cayce notified residents and the public of a Sanitary Sewer Overflow in the Riverland Drive area of Cayce. The overflow appeared to have been caused by a manhole failure.
On May 24, the City of Cayce notified residents and the public of a Sanitary Sewer Overflow along Phase Two of the Cayce Riverwalk. Currently, our Field Operations staff are investigating the cause of the overflow on Phase Two of the Cayce Riverwalk, which includes the Boardwalk.
WHAT WE KNOW:
In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 24, there was a ten-inch force main sewer line break. Immediately, our team worked to address the impact, stop the overflow, and follow all proper safety protocols for our residents.
The ten-inch sewer line is eight feet below and behind a 14-inch sewer line. Our Utilities team temporarily diverted flow from the ten-inch line to the 14-inch line and around the area of the break. Next, they preemptively filled in the large area exposed by the break in preparation for heavy rain flow in the coming days.
The overflow on Phase Two of the Cayce Riverwalk has been stopped and appropriate preemptive measures have been taken.
Director of Utilities, Betsy Catchings, stated “This is a complex issue, and we are in the exploratory phases of the cause of the sewer line break at the Riverwalk. Senior Staff and our Cayce Utilities team worked over the weekend and will continue to work to determine the cause and the length of time before the repairs to the sewer line, Boardwalk, and the Riverwalk can be made and completed.”
CAYCE RIVERWALK:
The City of Cayce notified residents and the public that the Riverwalk from Lyles Street to H. Kelley Jones Park is CLOSED until repairs are completed.
