City of Cayce Promotes Betsy Catchings to Assistant City Manager

The City of Cayce is pleased to announce the promotion of Betsy Catchings, Cayce native and Cayce Utilities Director, to Assistant City Manager.

In her role as Cayce Utilities Director, Betsy Catchings was named the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) Capital District Engineer of the Year. In past years she was also named the WEASC State Young Professional of the Year, and the WEF / WEASC Arthur Sidney Bedel Award recipient for Extraordinary Service. She consistently helps raise awareness and funding for the Association’s Annual Scholarship fund.

As Utilities Director, Catchings’ vast area of responsibilities include a 25 MGD wastewater treatment facility, a 9.6 MGD water treatment facility, a 100,000-gallon pretreatment grease and septic facility, an extensive water and sewer distribution center, 77 lift stations, approximately 285 miles of force and gravity sewer lines and over 225 miles of potable water lines.

In Cayce, Betsy has helped secure American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA,) Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA,) and Community Development Block (CDBG) grant funds to assist in offsetting rising costs. During her time as Utilities Director, she has enrolled many of our utilities’ operators in the Central Carolina Technical College water treatment certification course, ensuring retention of certified operators in Cayce.

Cayce City Manager, Michael Conley, stated, “Betsy’s strong work ethic, dedication to our Cayce residents, and twenty plus years of engineering knowledge has provided money-saving solutions for our Utilities Department; and ultimately, our citizens. I am proud to have Betsy serving on our city management team along with myself and Wesley Crosby.”
