City of Cayce issues press release after City Manager Tracy Hegler and city part ways

Tracy Hegler, who has led the City of Cayce as its City Manager for the last six years, will move forward to new endeavors after a mutual separation agreement was signed by Council and Hegler at the July 17 Cayce City Council meeting.

Hegler

Known for her leadership, dynamic knowledge of zoning and development and her passion for showcasing the accomplishments of her staff, praise came pouring in for Hegler after the decision was made.

“I want to thank Tracy for her years of service to the city and wish her the best in her future endeavors,” Councilman Hunter Sox stated.

Mayor Pro Tem, Tim James, exclaimed that “There is no one that can pull a team together like Tracy Hegler! When it comes to her extensive knowledge of zoning and ordinances, Tracy is the best I have ever worked with.”

Mayor Elise Partin stated, “Tracy has led our staff in a way that grew our culture of customer service. She created a place that drew great new employees and kept our phenomenal ones. She has been leading during a time when we are down two key department heads: our Police Chief who just departed for a new position, and our Director of Utilities who is recovering from a serious automobile accident.

Tracy, who was the Director of Community Planning and Development for Richland County prior to coming to Cayce in 2018, led the City and staff through the tragic murder of beloved Police Officer, Drew Barr; the disappearance and death of 6-year-old Faye Swetlik, completion of a $23 million waterline replacement project, as well as other major infrastructure projects, the development of the Cayce River Arts District, successfully split the Public Safety Department into dedicated police and fire departments,  refinanced bonds to save the City money, responsibly managed a growing budget, led the implementation of infield development standards to ensure quality compatibility with existing local developments, and helped bring new businesses during her tenure.

The Council meeting concluded with Councilman Phil Carter saying, “Tracy, thank you for taking such great care of this city. I wish you all the all best and know you will be successful in your next endeavor.”

Hegler’s last day will be Friday, July 19. Council has named current Deputy City Manager, Jim Crosland, as the interim manager.
