Chapin teen dies after being shot in Irmo – Man who died on I-20 is identified
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts released the name of the individual who died Wednesday afternoon in a shooting incident in a vehicle in the 100 block of Old Dutch Fork Road, Irmo. The incident occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m.
Corey E. Hunt, 18, of Sandbar Road, Chapin, was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS and taken to Prisma Health Richland Hospital where he died at 3:36 p.m.
An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to a gunshot wound to the head. The investigation is ongoing. However, there does not appear to be any foul play involved at this time.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office, SLED and the Irmo Police Department are investigating the incident.

Watts also is released the “tentative identification” of the individual who died Wednesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision that occurred at 12:48 p.m. on I-20 westbound near mile marker 73, Columbia.
Paul Korktuse Vowotor, 64, of Valley Heights Lane, Columbia, was the restrained driver of a vehicle that was involved in a collision with a tractor trailer truck that caught on fire.
The identification is tentative and is based on information gathered at the scene. The results of positive identification methods are pending at this time. An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to blunt trauma to the head and chest.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office and the SC Highway Patrol are investigating the incident.
