Chapin man charged with felony DUI after boat crash that killed 2

The collision occurred around 9:30 p.m. Saturday off of Broad River Road in the Pomaria/Peak area.

The two killed in the collision on the Broad River in Newberry County have been identified as Jamie Lindler, 27, of Chapin, and Andrew Bunnell, 28, of Irmo.

Steele, 26, of Chapin was charged Monday with two counts of DUI water, resulting in death, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. If convicted, he faces, a minimum of one year in prison, with no probation and a minimum fine of $10,000. Steele is also charged with running without lights

According to a report from the DNR, there were two people in each boat involved in the crash. One of the jon boats ran over the top of the other one, according to a Newberry County Sheriff’s report.
