Glenwood Park, on Glenn Street in Cayce, is in need of upgrading.

In 2024, staff members with the City of Cayce put together a list of the necessary improvements needed for the park in Glenwood Estates.

It needs replacement of the chain-link fence; removal of a broken bike rack, reconditioning of the basketball court, including new goals. Other improvements include: moving an old picnic shelter and table; new benches; painting; a new pavilion; and the addition of a new water fountain.

Cayce City Councilman Byron Thomas said he saw too many substandard basketball around Cayce.

“It was obvious kids want to play basketball,” he said. “I think it’s only right that the City of Cayce revitalize the basketball court at Glenwood Park. We need to make sure it’s safe, and that will help take the burden off of parents in our city looking to replace the basketball goal on their property. That means money saved.”

Thomas said Tim James, Cayce’s Mayor Pro-Tem, agreed with him about the parks after the two rode around town surveying the parks.

“Once we bring Glenwood Park up to a new standard,” Thomas said, “we will then be able to address and improve other parks in Cayce. It is our responsibility to make sure our parks and other “Quality of Life” Amenities stay updated, change with the times, and remain safe.”

This year, city staff chose Virtus Construction, from among six, as the lowest, and most capable bidder to repair the park.

On Feb. 4, Cayce City Council approved the contract for the work to begin.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Glenwood Park revitalized,” Thomas said. “It is a benefit to the residents in that neighborhood and it gives the children a place to get outside and get some exercise.”
