There’s a lot going on in Cayce, and Mayor Elise Partin expects more to come.

“We have lots of potential,” Partin said. She spoke to the West Metro Rotary Club in West Columbia, June 3.

She called Cayce “business-friendly” where the effort is to preserve its rich heritage, while revitalizing.

Partin said 60 percent of Cayce’s population is sable and invested in their community. And that community is sprouting around them.

One of the most significant projects of late is the Brookland-Cayce High School football and soccer stadium that opened on Knox-Abbott Drive in 2014.

Partin said the stadium – a part of Cayce’s entryway corridor is “stunning” and a landmark that people look for. She said it was built in keeping with the Guignard Brickworks look.

“We wanted it to be aesthetically pleasing,” Partin said. She said all projects in the city are being planned to be attractive, with attention to the close community feel that Cayce offers.

Partin also said she has a dream to see the old Brickworks property, fully developed.

Just across from the Brickworks, on Knox Abbott Drive, Partin said a traffic calming and pedestrian design is planned. It will include planted medians, upgraded sidewalks and lighting, with mast-arm traffic lights. There is already a welcome sign near the bridge, a project of the Cayce Beautification Foundation.

Across from the popular shopping center of Parkland Plaza, Cayce’s historic Guignard Park is getting an upgrade too.

To the east of the park are 220 new apartments named Tremont, at Cayce’s riverside at the Blossom Street Bridge. Those apartments overlook the scenic Congaree River.

“It is a very attractive development,” Partin said. It connects directly to Riverwalk.

Further up Knox-Abbott a new Walmart Neighborhood Grocery opens June 29.

Along Cayce’s 12th Street Extension, moving toward I-77 there is more.

Near the SCANA Headquarters, Amazon, Nephron Pharmaceuticals and a Lexington Medical Center care facility have popped up. The newly-built Otarre Pointe Apartment Complex consists of 299 units. They are about 75 percent filled.

For single-family housing in the area, Concord Park has more than 100 homes in it. It is one of the 5Caycemost-successful-selling subdivisions in the Midlands.

The Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center is draws thousands to tennis tournaments, and Courtyard by Marriott is building a hotel beside it to keep visitors in Cayce.

In addition to that a new Lexington School District 2 elementary school is under construction beside Busbee, a school middle.
