Release from the City of Cayce

At approximately 1:15 p.m., Wednesday,  the City of Cayce Utilities Department was notified of a sewer overflow that caused sewage to enter the creek at Monkey Springs Branch.

The City of Cayce utility crews were dispatched immediately to determine and address the cause of the spill. It has been determined that the cause of the sewer overflow was due to a sewer main blockage at an abandoned home on Poplar Street.

The spill resulted in an undetermined amount of sewage to flow into the creek. SC DHEC was notified of the spill immediately. Cayce utility officials are in the process of removing the blockage and cleanup will begin when the flow is restored.
