Cayce Public Safety part of 18-pound marijuana bust

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, the Cayce Department of Public Safety (CPS) seized Cayce-DPS-Seal-2zuzly1l6eno9ntubisa2yapproximately 18 pounds of marijuana, 2 vehicles and over 36,000 cash. The case was being worked with agents of the US Postal Inspection Service and the US Postal Service Office of Inspector General, along with CPS. Those agencies were investigating  mail theft and marijuana trafficking.

Officers observed two male suspects, Julius Carlton Williamson  and Keith Latroy Jenkins, stealing packages out of mail bundles and hiding them on the Post Office Complex at 2001 Dixiana Road. The packages were to be picked up later. Officers located the hidden packages and, during their examination of the packages, found them to contain Marijuana, said Ashley Hunter, spokeswoman for the City of Cayce. 

Officers seized the marijuana and determined it to be 16 bundles with a total weight of approximately 18 pounds. Officers then made contact with the suspects who admitted to the theft and the Trafficking of Marijuana. The suspects turned over two vehicles (a 2008 Buick LaCrosse and a 2008 Chrysler 300) and the approx. $36,000 cash for seizure. Both suspects were charged with Trafficking Marijuana and transported to the Lexington County Detention Center. This investigation is ongoing.
