Cayce Police honor the memory of Cpl. Drew Barr who was shot and killed in the line of duty a year ago

There was a gathering at the Cayce Police Department Headquarters Monday morning to honor and remember Cpl. Drew Barr. One year ago Monday, Barr paid the ultimate sacrifice. He was shot and killed in the line of duty. Barr was answering a domestic situation when Austin Leigh Henderson 36, of Cayce shot him and killed him. Henderson later took his own life at the scene during the incident.

Monday officers and others remembered Barr’s living legacy of service above self with candles of remembrance, a prayer and celebration of his life. They remembered what Barr meant to them. The US flag was flown at half-mast at the headquarters.

Barr’s Cayce family still feels pain over his sacrifice and is thankful for the outpouring of support they have received and the outstanding partnerships and love they have from citizens, communities, businesses, and clergy.

Barr lived life to the fullest and served others. Officers on Monday challenged themselves and everyone else to live like Barr did; as a person who served above himself. And remember, Barr is in Heaven smiling down on us. (Cayce Police photos)
