Cayce Mayor Elise Partin was elected president of the Municipal Association of South Carolina, Saturday. The MASC held its annual meeting in Hilton Head over the weekend.

“It’s pretty amazing,” Partin said Monday morning. She also said her election will benefit Cayce and the region of the state around her. The position as president, she said, will help her bring the best practices, ideas and resources back home.

“We’re on the front line of all of it,” Partin said. She described the MASC as a “great resource.” She said as president she can see what other cities and towns are doing, and use that for local governing.

Partin also said the cities and towns are the economic engines of the state and part of her mission is to “spread the word” about the importance of municipalities.

The MASC is made up of 270 cities and towns. Partin served as First Vice President last year.

She referenced some of the changes coming to Cayce as evidence of the energy and progress related to municipal government. In addition to the SCANA headquarters, Amazon Fulfillment Center and Nephron Pharmaceuticals, that are in, or border, Cayce, Partin said there is a lot of excitement surrounding the New Cayce Elementary School opening in August, and the Career and Technology Center being built by Lexington School District Two.

“We love what the school district is doing,” Partin said, We have a great relationship with them. And it makes a difference to industry.”

The Cayce Tennis Center and its Riverwalk are other attributes that make Cayce a special place, said Partin.
