Cayce Elementary students, teachers, and staff come together for “Unified Day” to build confidence, resilience, and sportsmanship
Cayce Elementary students, teachers, and staff came together Thursday for the school’s second Unified Day of the school year.
As a Unified Champion School through Special Olympics South Carolina, Cayce Elementary’s goal is to provide an opportunity for students with and without disabilities the chance to build confidence, self-esteem, resilience, sportsmanship, and awareness for others. The day kicked off with a parade of athletes through the school’s hallways, followed by opening ceremonies.
Among the day’s activities were baseball, softball, track and field, basketball, and soccer. Athletes were on site from Lexington Two’s Airport High School and Brookland-Cayce High School, as well as from the University of South Carolina, to offer a hand and cheer on Cayce students.
