A suspect identified as Michael Todd Slater of West Columbia has been arrested and charged by the Cayce Department of Public Safety with one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor first degree and two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor third degree.

Slater was taken into custody without incident Wednesday  morning at a business in West Columbia. The West Columbia Police Department and Lexington County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the arrest.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the Cayce Department of Public Safety for incidences that occurred between June 2012 and November 2013, while the victim was less than 13 years old. Slater was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing. The case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing. Further information will be provided as early as Monday.
