Cayce City Councilman Hunter Sox will run for reelection on his record of responsible growth, protecting taxpayers, strengthening public safety, and a common sense vision

Sox highlights record of results, says next four years critical to Cayce’s future

CAYCE, S.C. – Hunter Sox, fourth-generation Cayce resident and District 3 Councilman, Thursday formally announced his campaign for a second term on Cayce City Council.

Cayce City Councilman Hunter Sox

First elected in 2021 as the youngest council member in city history, Sox has built a record of principled, values-driven leadership – protecting taxpayers, strengthening public safety, and driving new growth and infrastructure. He points to the next four years as critical for Cayce’s future.

Sox outlined his common sense vision:

  • Enhance Public Safety – Establish a police substation in District 3 to improve response times and keep neighborhoods safe.
  • Revitalize Key Corridors – Reimagine Airport Boulevard and Charleston Highway with modern sidewalks, bike lanes, lighting, and streetscaping to attract new businesses, development, and jobs.
  • Expand Transparency – Livestream Planning Commission meetings and restructure public meetings to add work sessions to keep residents informed and involved in decisions.
  • Invest in Parks – Continue upgrades to recreational facilities & green spaces.
  • Cut Red Tape – Streamline permitting and partner with local businesses, developers, and residents to keep Cayce growing responsibly.

During his first term, Sox saved the average household more than $200 annually by spearheading efforts to block tax hikes and reinvest budget surpluses into infrastructure and services.

Supporting Cayce’s Businesses

After uncovering hundreds of thousands of dollars in budget surpluses that were rolling over year after year, Sox worked to ensure those funds didn’t sit idle—because, as he says, “our city is not a bank.” Instead, those dollars were reinvested into infrastructure and essential services that directly benefit taxpayers.

He also helped recruit new investment, spurring Cayce’s first new neighborhoods in nearly a decade and growing the business community by more than 10%. Today, 663 businesses generate $1.1 billion in revenue and $2.6 million in license fees, with major projects underway across the city.

Sox supported separating police and fire into standalone departments, which improved the city’s ISO rating and lowered insurance premiums. New neighborhood security cameras and business partnerships have further strengthened public safety.

“For too long, Cayce was stagnant. We had no growth, no new partnerships, and too often the answer from City Hall was simply ‘no,’” said Sox. “That reputation was enabled by the status quo, which turned away opportunity instead of welcoming it.”

“When I entered office, we changed that. We have put the right staff in place, streamlined our processes, and built strong partnerships that enable us to say ‘yes’— while always protecting taxpayers and keeping our city’s values at the center. Cayce now has momentum, and the next four years are about building on that progress and making sure we never slip back into gridlock and missed opportunities,” Sox concluded.
