Out of hundreds of scholarship applications, only one McLaughlin scholarship is awarded per year. West Columbia City Councilmen David Moye and Mike Green are also attending the conference.

The scholarship is given to an elected or appointed official at an early part of their career. The recipient is given introductions to a network of national leaders in the practice of implementing redevelopment plans through innovative approaches to city planning, engineering and architecture to create more competitive and sustainable cities that are diverse, interesting and authentic places.
