Car ran off of North Lake Drive Wednesday, body discovered in Lake Murray on Friday, coroner identifies the person recovered
A car ran off of North Lake Drive early Wednesday morning and a Body was discovered in Lake Murray on Friday, according to Cpl. Nick Pye of he the SC Highway Patrol.
Pye said a 2022 Dodge Charger was traveling west on North Lake Drive, near Lake Murray Boulevard, at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday. He said the car ran off the left side of the road on overturned into Lake Murray. The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department reported finding a body floating in Lake Murray, Friday morning.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identied the person who was recovered from Lake Murray near the Irmo side of the dam at approximately 9:50 A.M. on Friday.
According to Fisher, Mr. Darius Marshe Dendy, 34, of Columbia was pronounced dead on the scene after being recovered from Lake Murray. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Dendy was involved in a motor vehicle collision on Wednesday. Mr. Dendy’s vehicle was located in Lake Murray and retrieved shortly after he was recovered from the lake.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
