Car chase through Lexington County results in arrest of man accused of attempted murder

A man accused of attempted murder was arrested Thursday after leading deputies on a chase along Interstate Highways 26 and 77 through Richland and Lexington counties.

Devin Richard Boineau

Devin Richard Boineau, 29, was also wanted for breach of trust and possession of a weapon during a violent crime when he initiated a pursuit with Richland County deputies.

“Investigators worked much of Thursday to locate Boineau; deputies spotted him driving a car reported as stolen and tried to pull him over,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “That’s when he initiated the pursuit, ignoring blue lights and sirens on I-26.”

Boineau eventually exited onto I-77 and crossed into Richland County, according to Koon.

“Boineau ran over a tire deflation device and was taken into custody near East Boundary Road, thanks to the coordination between the two agencies,” Koon said.

Lexington County deputies plan to charge Boineau with failure to stop for blue lights, receiving stolen goods and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to Koon. The attempted murder charge against Boineau stems from a Dec. 3 incident near Gaston in which he’s accused of shooting a man, according to an arrest warrant.

Boineau is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
