Brookland-Cayce’s Parker Mergo signs to play college baseball at Newberry

Brookland-Cayce’s Parker Mergo signed to play baseball at Newberry College, Friday.

Parker is the grandson of Sen. Niki Setzler, and his wife, Ada Jane.

The senior infielder, surrounded by his family, coaches, school administrators, teammates and students, signed his Letter-of-Intent at a ceremony held at the Brookland-Cayce Hall of Fame that is in the school’s basketball arena.

BC Head Coach Rusty Charpia praised Mergo for his years of dedication to the baseball program. Joe Mergo, Parker’s father, talked about the work his son put forth over the years to become a college-level baseball player.
