Brookland-Cayce wins another walk-off playoff game
Brookland-Cayce scored in the bottom of the seventh Monday and defeated Waccamaw, 3-2, Monday, in the high school baseball playoffs, when dropped a single into centerfield in the bottom of the seventh.
The winning run came after BC catcher Ty Marshall walked in the bottom of the 7th and moved to second on a bunt by Jackson Thomas. Marshall scored on a Dylan Mclnchok’s single Brookland-Cayce’s BJ Etheridge pitched a complete game, throwing 108 pitches, and got the win
With the win, Brookland-Cayce is the 3A, District 5 Champion and will face Dreher on Thursday in the 4-team, double-elimination Lower State playoff bracket.
Just Last Thursday (May 4) BC’s Hayden Thomas homered in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Waccamaw, 2-1.
In Monday’s game, Waccamaw, from 3A, Region 7, jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but BC tied the game at 2 in the fourth inning after Tanner Staton legged out an infield single and moved to second on a Parker Mergo bunt. Staton scored on a Hayden Thomas single up the middle. Thomas stole second and scored, to tie it up at 2, when Etheridge dropped a single into left field.
