Brookland-Cayce student is the victim in a fatal car accident, another student hospitalized

Dr. Vance Jones, principal at Brookland-Cayce High School, sent out an email Sunday afternoon informing parents that the life of a Brookland-Cayce High School student was lost in an early Sunday morning car accident. Another student was hospitalized with injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the student was not disclosed.

Below is a copy of the letter that was sent.

BCHS Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I reach out to you this afternoon. Early this morning, two of our students were involved in a single-car accident. One of them passed away, and the other was hospitalized for his injuries.

We are sending this email to offer you the opportunity to discuss this information with your child in your own way before they return to school on Monday. However, considering the closeness of our Brookland-Cayce and Lexington Two communities, your child may have already seen something on social media.

We want you to know that we will be there for our students and employees when they return to school on Monday. As we deal with our loss, we will have more district and school counselors and psychologists on hand to talk with employees and students. Our only goal is to listen, comfort, and reassure. Please know that if our counselors have any concerns about how your child is handling this news, we will contact you.

During this extremely difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends, teachers, and others of these two students. You are welcome to contact one of our school counselors or me directly at (803) 791-5000.

Dr. Jones
(BCHS) Principal
